TVP Taco Meat

Enjoy this vegan taco meat in your burritos, tacos, vegan crunchwraps, taco salads, and more! It's made with inexpensive dry soy crumbles and tastes better than Taco Bell.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups TVP
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup aquafaba
  • 5 tsp chili powder NOT cayenne!
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp cumin powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp msg or white miso
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp marjoram
  • dash of black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  • Mix the water, soy sauce, and aquafaba together in a bowl.
  • Heat TVP and the liquid from step 1 in a frying pan until the liquid is completely absorbed.
  • Add all the spices and cook, stirring so it doesn't burn, allowing the mixture to brown a bit in the pan.
  • Add 2 Tbsp of oil and keep browning it another 5 minutes.
  • Once it becomes more browned and drier, turn off the heat and add 1/2 cup water.
